Jackson Family Birthday Celebrations

September Birthdays
Grandma Cheryl and Aunt Sarah
September 7th, 2008
The Jackson extended family typically gets together each month for a family potluck dinner to celebrate that specific months family birthdays, this month being September it was Matts moms b-day and his brother Jake's wife Sarahs b-day. Since the great Northwest weather was still cooperating with the beautiful sunshine, Matts dad broke out his shave ice machine for the occasion. It was a hit as always with the younger and older kids alike. The only problem was that not enough ice was frozen so it didn't go too far...grandpa will know better for next time though!
Cousin Noelle enjoying her shave ice.
We had a BBQ and it looks like BreAnna found a bit of the HEALTHY stuff to add to her plate. (It's always nice to see that!)
Despite the fact that g-ma has decided that it's no longer okay for the kids to play in the pond (uh-oh, not quite sure if she really doesn't want them in it or if it's just one of those wishful thinking things, kind of hard to break a favorite past time and old habit for the kids I think)...they found their way over to it in search of bugs, bugs, and yet more swimming buggie creatures. This time they actually found a lizard, I think it was a salamander...it was the hit of the party in the kids eyes I'm sure! We brought the cakes to the potluck, here's Matt and his sister Stephanie in an attempt to light the candles...they were all lit at one time; however, unfortunately the wind wouldn't allow them to stay lit. After a few hopeless attempts, Cheryl and Sarah just had to pretend they were blowing out their candles, too funny!
Cheryl lucked out with the majority of her sisters in attendance for her birthday this year. They were actually in town on a lower note- they came up & were visiting for Cheryls fathers funeral which was on the 9th, he passed away on the Sunday before Labor Day. Cheryl was in Chelan when she found out that he was in the hospital and not expected to live much longer so she rushed home and had the opportunity with her sisters to say their goodbyes as Matts brother Dave and a friend gave him a blessing of comfort. Cheryl pretty much single handedly planned and carried out her fathers funeral, although sadly not many of us were too familiar with her father or his family & friends, it was a very nice funeral.
Here's Sarah and more good news about her and their family! They are expecting!!! Jake and Sarah have two girls thus far, they aren't sure if it's a boy or a girl yet...so we're all excited to find out.
Here's Josh, neither of those plates were his cake...he just felt the need to polish off everyone elses after he was finished with his own.
Before we went to the party, we stopped off at Flaming Geyser state park on the Green River to pick up buckets full of river rocks that will be used for my primary sharing time in a few weeks for prayer rocks, thanks to Wendy she gave me the cutest poem to go along with them...I'd heard of the prayer rocks and knew how to use them but the poem is too cute!
Here it is:
I am your little prayer rock and this is what I'll do...
Just put me on your pillow until the day is through
Then turn down the covers and climb into your bed
And Whack, your little prayer rock will hit you on your head
So that you remember as the day is through
To kneel and say your prayers just as you intended to
When you are all finished just drop me on the floor
I'll stay there all night long to give you help once more...
At waking in the morning clunk, I'll stub your toe
So you will remember your morning prayers before you go
Now put me atop your pillow when your bed is made
And your clever little prayer rock will continue in your aid
Because your Heavenly Father cares and loves you so
He wants you to remember to talk to him you know.
Spencer, who is always "so bored," I get so tired to hearing him say that! Well, lets just say he wasn't bored as I put him to work scrubbing all of the rocks we had gathered, he did a great job and I actually think he had fun cleaning them. He's a great helper when he wants to be! BreAnna as she FINALLY truly understood telling time on clocks! I was thrilled, last year I tried and tried to go over and over it with her, but she was still totally confused with the short hands and long hands and which was which and which you used as the minute and hour and how the hour goes to 12, yet the minutes got to 60, and how you can simplify by breaking the minutes into 15, 30, 45, ect...yah' it was too much at the time! I'm pretty sure we both had our patience tested...I knew she just didn't get it no matter how creative or simplified I tried to make it. Until the other day as we sat down to do her homework this year, remembering how it just wouldn't click last year, some times it just takes a little longer for some in order for it all to click or for the brain to compute it all in...but when it does, it does! We were both so HAPPY, she totally got it... I just had to take a picture, no more digital clocks for this girl! Ellie and Josh as they paint the fence, it does look like it needs a new coat of stain...but this time they just used water! Well, school is under way. The first week was a bit stressful with all of the new schedules with school, preschool, and various extra activities of the kids after school and I'm sure that for me being that specific week of the month didn't help me out but Ellie must have been intuitive as I said her prayers with her before I tucked her in bed at the end of the week. She's such a caring child, she said what she was thankful for and then blessed Spencer to feel better (he had been complaining of a sore throat, then she says and help mom not to be so frustrated.) I thought it was cute, she must have caught on that I was a bit stressed out. Bed time always seems to be a challenge, there's so many things that need to take place before they are actually in bed, between family & scripture time and baths and PJS and teeth being brushed, I think there needs to be more hours in a day. Actually it would probably not make a bit of differnce who am I kidding! Anyways, this week (being the second week of school was much more smooth sailing and stress free, it was a good week.) Matt even got to do some Salmon fishing with Jarom and his scouts on the Puyallup River, they had a really good time. Jarom thought it was cool that he got his own fishing license, Matt caught one & they brought it home and cooked it up & low and behold my kids actually ate fish and liked it, who would have guessed?!

Snakes & Snails and Puppy Dog Tails...

THAT's WHAT LITTLE BOYS ARE MADE OF...
September 7th, 2008 This little fella sure is giving us a run for our money lately, we're pretty sure he's hit the terrible-two thing a few months early. With this little fact set aside, he sure is stinkin' cute and ALL BOY, what would we do without our little Joshie-Blosh?! ONE of MANY art pieces that Josh feels the need to display on our walls, this one was done this morning with a black permanent pen of all choices. Don't ask me where he finds them, but he always does...I couldn't even find a black permanent pen last week when I needed one to label the other kids school supplies??? The oh so sad thing about all of the art work he does on our walls is that our builder put the absolute cheapest paint on our walls so not only do I scrub the art work but the initial paint on the wall comes off as well. We've got another creative soul on our hands, he reminds me a lot of Ellies personality at this age. Very smart children, very hands on, independent, strong-willed, but much more challenging for me I'd have to admit with their always testing the limits and doing what they want to do despite how many times you tell them not to aspect! The personality is a good one to have and they will definitely get some where in life because they rarely take no for an answer if they are really wanting something, the term if there's a will there's a way is one I think of when it comes to them... but for mom right now and teaching & focusing this "Josh energy," I pretty much just have to pick my battles and remember not to create mountains out of mole hills. I'm having to re-learn all of this over again...

Good Bye Summer & "Simple Summer Pleasures"

SUMMER MEET & GREET YOUR NEW TEACHER.
August 26, 2008 BreAnna and her new 3rd grade teacher Miss Hukee
Ellie and her new 1st grade teacher Mrs. Argo, Ellie lost her first front tooth yesterday as well. (You can kinda see in the picture, of course she was so excited for the tooth fairy to make a visit as always.)
Jarom with his 4th grade teacher Mr. Gould, he had him last year as well. The same teachers follow them for two years which is kind of neat because Jarom really liked Mr. Gould. The school provided the kids with back packs with a few school supplies in them this year so they all got to take home their new back packs from the meet & greet which they thought was cool!

Speed-Demon & A Primary Carnival

WATCH OUT, IT'S SPEED DEMON!
August 27, 2008Spencer is free! For quite awhile it's been obvious that he could ride without his training wheels, (just from how totally fast and furious he'd ride his training wheel bike.) So today we took the plunge and took them off! And off he went like a bat out of a cave....
Ellie gets the credit for teaching him, supposedly they were at the neighbors house and she taught him how to ride their motorcycle two-wheeler bike so they raced home so I could take his training wheels off of his own little bike. It was very cute! Not having any training wheels makes me as a mom so much more nervous about him riding his bike though! He rides it great, but he just thinks he needs to go so fast...it's like I feel like his safety net is taken away. It's a weird feeling. The only thing he struggled with was the getting on the bike part. He was so used to climbing up on the seat while having the bike stay up on it's own, now without the training wheels it's a bit trickier to get started!

PRIMARY CARNIVAL

Our ward had their primary carnival today, the kids brought three friends so it was a great activity that they were able to use as an initial missionary experience as well which was fun. They had quite a bit of fun things for the kids to do and to keep them entertained. They did the cup cake walk, face painting, ring toss, bean bag toss, basketball hoop throw, fishing pond, pick-a-ducky in the pond and they had popcorn, hot dogs and plenty of candy prizes. They all had a good time.

The Happy & Sad, The Good & Bad!

Part One: The Happy & Good...
August 22, 2008

Matt arrived home from work with a surprise for Ellie. Aunt Sarah & Uncle Jake had sent her birthday present home with him (they probably gave it to grandma and she gave it to Matt at work.) Let me tell you, I've never heard such high pitched little happy girlly squeals in my life! It was so funny & totally cute how thrilled Ellie and the three friends that she had over playing at the time got over this sleeping bag/tent sleep-over set! It really is a cute set, it came with all of the necessities for a fun sleep over, a matching tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, water bottle, head band and it all came in a matching butterfly backpack. Very fun! The girls couldn't get it set up fast enough. The only draw back, it was a tad bit small. I think it probably was really only made for one person! Spencer & Ellie got to camp out in it down stairs in the living room when night came. What a great gift!

Part Two: The Sad & Bad...
Is is blood? No, it would be red nail Polish. The little baby foot would be our Joshua. Oh how cute you would think, he tried to paint his little piggies. Well, unfortunately the footsies is ONLY where it all started! (Not to mention this picture was taken many hours after the actual incident.) Now, this wouldn't be the first episode Joshua has had with nail polish, oh no...after the first episode of Josh getting into BreAnnas nail polish as he tried to paint his nails & getting it on the carpet upstairs one day, dad insisted to find all of Bres nail polish and deliver it safely to the trash can, he was not thrilled to say the least over that. That episode was a few months back and after an hour or so of scrubbing the carpet with paint thinner & nail polish remover, it's non apparent & you'd never know it happened. Alright back to yesterdays red nail polish incident. Oh what a sight, it was unimaginable...seriously, I had no clue that so much nail polish could be contained in one little bottle! Turns out, BreAnna & Ellie had found a bottle of my red nail polish in the junk drawer down stairs and decided to paint their nails and toes up at the kitchen table, I'm sure they felt they were safe doing it at the table; however, just as their plates, cups & snacks, after you eat at the table it must be cleared or picked up. Josh loves to get into anything left up at the table, spilt drinks, smeared yogart all over, you name it. It is seriously one mess after another with this little guy, and I'm pretty sure having four older siblings that frequently leave all of their fun and cool stuff down to his level makes his life so much more exciting! Oh messes, with numerous kids we deal with them on a daily basis. I thought I was pretty much immune to them & that I'd seen them all! Okay, so they obviously left their nail polish at the kitchen table and then they let me know they were going out to ride bikes. (I'm up sitars in our office area taking care of some business for Matts calling.) At this point, since Josh loves to escape the house these days via the front door when the dead bolt isn't locked, or through the back door through the garage after it's left open when the kids get their bikes out. On a side note, I do let him go out when I'm there with him & he's free to go into the back yard on his own since it's all gated but he just wants to be one of the big kids, which he's totally not yet so we have to keep him contained. Okay, so at this point I go shut the garage behind the kids as they left on their bikes and scooters, make sure the dead bolt is locked and head back up stairs, usually Josh will follow me if it's just the two of us. Well, not today. Literally after three minutes I start calling for him, "Josh, Joshie where are you, come up to see mama, come play in Ellies room, or with Spencers cars." Okay, at this point as he hears me calling him he knows he's into something he's not supposed to be into so I'm pretty sure Josh must have panicked or something running all over down stairs, through the nook, into the family room back through the kitchen and up to the sink all while leaving a red trail behind him (we have a step stool ladder at the kitchen sink so the kids can wash up before & after meals or help with the dishes.) So he must have then ran up the step stool in an attempt to wash the nail polish off of his hands because as I went down stairs to find him, that's where he was. I have never seen anything like this and I am not exaggerating, everything was covered in red nails polish. I literally was dumb founded not knowing where to start! I grabbed Josh covered in nail polish, his clothes, arms, legs, bottoms of his feet after he ran through it after it was spilt, yelled for the kids to come in the house. I think I was more frustrated at them for leaving it down than at Josh for getting into it. So I sent the kids to their rooms and told them to stay there, stuck Josh in his bed still covered in polish and went to work down stairs. It was everywhere, ALL over the carpet, on the kitchen table and chair, the sofa, a end table and a fan, the stool and kitchen counter and sink. Luckily the kitchen floor was the worst (where it was the easiest, if there is such a thing to scrub off being finger nail polish.) I was livid, so mad but at the same time I was so thankful that Matt wasn't home because this was a mountain compared the the mole-hill that the first nail polish incident was. At this time I only had one bottle of nail polish remover and one bag of cotton balls and knew they wouldn't go too far. So from our last experience with the carpet, I just let that dry for now so I wouldn't smear it and make it 50 times worse. And seeing the puddles of nail polish that if I didn't smell better would've thought they were blood at first sight on the kitchen hard wood floors, I knew I'd need a ton of products to get all of that up. (Like I said you'd be amazed at how far one bottle of nail polish goes.) I couldn't worry if the remover would damage the hard wood, I just had to get to work! Oh, what a experience. Sorry, no pictures...I was way to mad for those! I ended up cutting the top layer of the carpet off after it dried, which worked amazingly. We have the stain resistant stuff so it kind of just sat and dried on the top layer of the carpet vs. soaking all of the way down...which was a life saver! So no red nail polish trails left on the carpet & you can't even tell I gave our carpet a hair trim! As for everything else, pretty much flat surfaces where after hours of scrubbing (it got a bit difficult after it dried) I got it all out. All except the sofa where the nail polish only smeared with the remover. BUT that's why we have a brown sofa, luckily it's not to apparent with an initial glance. As for Josh, he got to make a trip to the grocery store to pick up more cotton balls and remover covered in red nail polish so we could finish cleaning him & his mess up. Oh kids, our lives would be so boring without them. Maybe some day I'll be able to sit back and laugh about this, I'm not quite there yet...

Are We Done Yet?

New Pictures for Our Blog Layout!
August 18, 2008
Last week on a whim Aunt Stacie met us up at Lake Wilderness Park to snap a few pics of the kids. Of course it had to end up being like 90+ degrees outside so the kids were anything but interested in posing for pictures...but all about wanting to jump into the lake.
This pic of Spencer totally captured his attitude about the photo shoot. No, they really weren't too bad considering how terribly hot it was outside. I thought this picture was funny though! They were troopers as were Stacies kids who had to stay out of the Lake just as long as our kids as they followed their mom around the park while she took pics of our kids. And boy did that Lake feel great after all of the pictures were taken! They had a good time swimming with their cousins.
Luck for me, it was a more pleasant cooler actually drizzly-rainy day today. Perfect for a Monday, which is typically my cleaning day. So we cleaned the house and after that, the rain gave me an excuse to sit down to the computer to change up our blog background & pics. Thank you Aunt Stacie, our silly kids!
